NSQ: Do you have to be at least a little stupid to fall in love?

You all are talking about Black folks like any of us are actually capable of fostering healthy, loving relationships. Loving is something that humans do instinctively. Creating a healthy, loving relationship, however, requires much more than instinct. I believe that what most people consider to be a healthy, loving relationship is nothing more than a white patriarchal fantasy placed in their heads by years of social programming. We are all mating in captivity. Whether or not we want to admit it, our experiences in this land have traumatized us. Before we even begin to expect ourselves to be healthy in a relationship, we need to heal the deep wounding caused by generations of trauma specifically designed to destroy our sense of family, connection, personal power, and love.
